Leigh Latchum, Concertmaster
Mrs. Leigh Latchum has served as Concertmaster of the symphony since 1994. She is a native of Raleigh, NC. Her introduction to the violin was in the fifth grade. Immediately, she pursued private lessons at Meredith College continuing through her high school years. She attended the School of Music at UNC Greensboro, studying violin performance.
After serving as the Director of Performing Arts for two North Carolina Arts Councils, Mrs. Latchum returned to college and received a degree in business from NC State University. She arrived in Danville in 1987 as a new employee at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. After five years in an industrial environment, she decided to combine her interest in music and business, opening “Latchum Music and Sound,” a violin / viola / guitar / mandolin studio for private instruction. Currently, she teaches approximately 65 local musicians, including many of the players in the symphony. She is a performing member of the Danville String Quartet and is an active soloist in the southside.
